Massachusetts Tax Update - 2005 Wednesday | June 1, 2005 | 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Boston Bar Association Over the past year, the Supreme Judicial Court decided several significant tax cases, including Boston Professional Hockey Association, FMR Corporation, and Macy’s East, Inc. Since the Assistant Attorney General who argued these cases before the Court has joined this year’s panel, the state government’s perspective in litigating tax cases will be included as part of the program’s overall discussion. Over the last two years, the legislature has enacted tax legislation sponsored by the Romney Administration that the Department of Revenue has interpreted the Department’s role in certifying economic opportunity areas, the eligibility of corporations as research and development corporations, as well as a number of administrative issues. The seminar will provide an update on the status of two tax bills, currently being considered by the Joint Committee on Revenue, as well as a discussion on what it means. After the seminar, you will know how recent developments – both proposed and actual – in Massachusetts tax will affect your client’s tax situation.
