Registration: 8:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Program: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Since it went into effect on January 1, 2006, Medicare’s new prescription drug benefit, known as Medicare Part D, has challenged regulators, health plans, pharmacies, consumers, and the attorneys who advise each of them. Attendees will learn how to navigate the requirements of the Part D Program, in addition to gaining up-to-date information on recent developments.

Panelists will share their insights and practical experiences on:

  • The development and implementation of the Part D Program from the governmental perspective.
  • Health plans’ efforts to implement and administer the Part D drug benefit through Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans in coordination with employer groups and their enrollees.
  • Pharmacists’ experiences with the Part D Program, including with issues such as reimbursement, dual eligibility, formulary restrictions and consumer questions.
  • Manufacturers’ issues under Part D, including drug formularies, rebate agreements, and the relationships between Part D plans, pharmacy benefit managers and drug manufacturers.
  • The rights and obligations of pharmacies under the Part D Program, including access to prescription drug plans, the impact of “any willing pharmacy” provisions, the status of mail order pharmacies in the Program, and recent CMS guidance on provider promotional activities and areas of potential pharmacy fraud, waste and abuse.
