The adoption and use of Electronic Health Record systems (EHR Systems) is often cited as critical to initiatives in the health care industry to improve quality and reimbursement, provide better access to information, and facilitate communications. Health care organizations which adopt, promote, or sell EHR Systems are faced with a number of legal challenges, as well as some new opportunities created by federal and state laws. Attendees will learn about the range of issues these challenges and opportunities present.
This program will provide an overview of the legal issues in the design, implementation, and use of EHR Systems at a time when promotion and adoption efforts are increasing.
Topics will include:
- Electronic Health Records Basics
- Legal and Regulatory Initiatives to Promote EHR Adoption
- Standards for Information Exchange and Interoperability: State of the Union
- Models for Health Information Exchanges
