Removal Actions in the Probate & Family Court Sponsors During the past year six new appellate cases have been decided that have altered the legal landscape. Starting with the Supreme Judicial Court case Mason v. Coleman, this seminar will provide a discussion of these recent cases and their impact. It is important for any practitioner in the Probate and Family Court to understand these cases in drafting separation agreements at the time of divorce or later when counseling a client about a removal action. One of the key components to a removal case is the Guardian ad Litem investigation, starting with the selection of the Guardian ad Litem. Should a lawyer or a mental health professional be selected to conduct the Guardian ad Litem investigation? What methods should be used to conduct the Guardian ad Litem investigation? What information should be provided to the Guardian ad Litem? The panel of experts, which includes experienced family law practitioners, a lawyer Guardian ad Litem and a mental health Guardian ad Litem will address these issues. There will also be an overview of the psychological effects of relocation on children based upon the latest psychological research. Panelists William M. Levine, Esq. Jinanne S. J. Elder, Esq. Joanna Bunker Rohrbaugh, Ph.D. Alexander D. Jones, Esq. Jennifer Sevigney Durand, Esq.
