Panelists will address the origins, current conditions and the future of the current foreclosure crisis. In addition, the presenters will review recently enacted mortgage lending controls and foreclosure prevention legislation and comment on lenders’ responses to the foreclosure crisis.

Attendees will gain an understanding of predatory and subprime lending markets; what the subprime crisis means for lenders, owners, buyers, and sellers; and what government regulatory and enforcement actions have been taken to curtail the crisis.

For those who attended January’s "Predatory Lending in the Trenches" CLE, which provided strategies to identify and pursue Truth in Lending and G.L.c. 93A claims, this is a great follow-up program!

Specific topics will include:

  • Recently enacted comprehensive mortgage lending and foreclosure prevention legislation
  • Assistance programs for homeowners with unaffordable mortgages
  • Lender response to foreclosure crisis and agreement to modify/restructure loans
  • Historical perspective on the predatory lending market
  • Subprime crisis from the perspective of the real estate attorney representing lenders, owners, buyers, and sellers
