This cutting edge program will cover various
aspects of the Pierce v. Pierce
decision which was recently decided by the Supreme Judicial Court; the recommendations
of the MBA/Boston Bar Association (BBA) Alimony Task Force; and the possible future
ramifications that pending alimony legislation might have for family law
practitioners. Practitioners will
receive an understanding of the issues to consider in the future regarding
alimony and retirement.
Expert panelists will discuss what the Pierce decision seems to highlight for
Probate and Family Court judges to consider regarding the duration of
alimony. Panelists will include
Anthony M. Doniger, Esq. of Sugarman,
Rogers, Barshak & Cohen, P.C. and David E. Cherny, Esq. of Atwood &
Cherny, PC who represented Rudolph and Carneice Pierce, respectively, in the
recently decided SJC case, Pierce v.
Pierce. The panel will also
include Kelly Leighton, Esq. of Greater Boston Legal Services, who is the
BBA liaison to the legislative
committee working on alimony reform in Massachusetts. Ms. Leighton will summarize the
alimony legislation that is pending on Beacon
Hill and the status of that legislation. The program will be moderated by
Gene Dahmen, Esq. of Verrill Dana LLP who is a member of the MBA/BBA Alimony Task Force and will be able to provide
insight into the work of the alimony task force.
