Pro Bono Month is not only an occasion to seek out new pro bono
opportunities, but also a chance to reflect on and celebrate on the services
provided to indigent clients in the Greater Boston area. The Boston Bar
Association's New Lawyers Section is holding their Pro Bono Celebration on
October 26th, a networking opportunity where attorneys of all backgrounds
can discuss current and future projects and have a chance to
acknowledge the hard work that has been put towards pro bono efforts in the past
year.
"This event is first and foremost
about celebrating the provision of pro bono services and all the work currently
being done by members of the Boston Legal Community" said New Lawyers Pro Bono
Committee Co-Chair Jamie Charles of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. "We also
hope to increase the awareness of and participation in pro bono projects
available through the BBA and foster new projects by putting attorneys with a
common interest in the same room and giving them an opportunity to share
ideas."
The keynote speaker of the event is Victor Garo, who will speak on his
experience working on the famous Joseph Salvati wrongful conviction case. Garo's
speech will be followed by a reception that will highlight the available
pro bono opportunities at the BBA. Attendees will have a chance to converse and
enjoy one another's company over a glass of wine.
"There is no better way to channel
the spirit of volunteerism this speaker will engender than by immediately
presenting those in attendance with the myriad of pro bono opportunities
available through the different sections of the BBA," said New Lawyers Pro Bono
Committee Co-Chair Lucas Burke of the Law Offices of Lucas Burke.
