FTC Privacy Report a Big Deal

Courtesy of Peter Lefkowitz, Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer at Oracle, and member of the Boston Bar Journal Board of Editors. Hot off the presses is the FTC report, "Protecting Consumer Privacy in an Era of Rapid Change" spelling out their view of the state of online privacy and proposals for structural changes in the US’s  approach to notice to, consent to and use of online tracking tools. "The report is a big deal," says Peter, "as evidenced by front page coverage in The New York Times. I think it is going to pave the way for new legislative proposals in the incoming Congress, and gives strong indications of the FTC’s approach to fair information practices going forward."  For more details, Peter has shared with us a summary from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
