Choate Hall & Stewart Names Six New Partners

Choate Hall & Stewart LLP announced today that six attorneys – Dr. Fangli Chen, Mark Edgarton, Sean Monahan, Peter Moores, Ethan Torrey, and Jennifer Tracy – have been named partners at the firm, effective January 1, 2011.

As a partner in Choate's Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Litigation, and Life Sciences Groups, Dr. Fangli Chen will continue to represent all types of companies in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries and specialize in the strategic development of complex IP portfolios.  She received her J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2006, her Ph.D. in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2001, her M.S. in plant pathology from Oklahoma State University in 1995, and her B.S., highest distinction, in genetics from Fudan University (Shanghai, China) in 1990.  Dr. Chen has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.

As a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation and Major Commercial Litigation Groups, Mark Edgarton will continue to focus his practice on patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation and other intellectual property litigation on behalf of major internet, pharmaceutical, and technology companies.  He also represents public and private companies and private equity firms in business disputes involving breach of contract, misrepresentation, fraud, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.  Mr. Edgarton received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2003 and his B.A. from Middlebury College in 1999.  He has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.

As a partner in Choate's Finance & Restructuring Group, Sean Monahan will continue to focus his practice on complex financial transactions for banks and institutional investors, creditor's rights and insolvency matters, and commercial financing transactions for private equity funds.  He received his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Cornell Law School in 2004, where he was editor of the Cornell Law Review.  He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Bates College in 1998.  Mr. Monahan has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.

As a partner in the firm's Insurance & Reinsurance and Major Commercial Litigation Groups, Peter Moores will continue to focus his practice on litigation on behalf of insurance companies in coverage disputes with insureds.  He also represents corporations in complex commercial and financial litigation involving private securities litigation, SEC investigations, breaches of contract, and joint venture relationships.  Mr. Moores received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2003 and his A.B. magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 2000.  He has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.

As a partner in Choate's Insurance & Reinsurance and Major Commercial Litigation Groups, Ethan Torrey will continue to focus his practice on complex business litigation, primarily insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes.  He also represents public and private companies and private equity firms in business disputes involving breach of contract, misrepresentation, fraud, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.  Mr. Torrey received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1999, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He received his M.A. from Columbia University in 1996 and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992.

As a partner in the firm's Government Enforcement & Compliance and Major Commercial Litigation Groups, Jennifer Tracy will continue to represent national corporations and individuals in government investigations and litigation.  She also represents leading corporations and financial institutions in complex commercial litigation and arbitration, including breach of contract, fraud, patent infringement, and securities claims.  Ms. Tracy received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2004 and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Cornell University in 2000.  She has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.
