Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeks Help

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low-to-moderate income persons. Volunteers assist in filling out tax returns, and provide consultations on special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly.

No specific skill set is required, as the Earned Income Tax Coalition welcomes all volunteers. Training is designed to teach basic tax preparation using Taxwise, a computer software that simplifies the preparation process to create a user-friendly experience.  Volunteers are also provided with additional resources including on-site staff support and resources for more complicated tax situations.

The Boston EITC serves low and moderate-income taxpayers and their families. In 2009, the EITC served 11,000 taxpayers and returned more than $19.4 millions dollars in federal returns

Join the New Lawyers and Tax Sections for a brief introduction to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the BBA.
