International law firm McDermott Will &
Emery LLP has announced that it has named Matthew A. Martel as a partner in
its Trial Practice, based in Boston.
"Matt is a significant addition to our litigation team, bolstering our
securities litigation practice," said Lazar P. Raynal, partner and Firm-wide
head of McDermott's Trial Practice. "His deep securities experience,
strong litigation skills, and important client relationships make him a great
fit with our existing Trial practice."
Matt represents clients in a wide variety of disputes, including corporate
governance and shareholder litigation, litigation arising from mergers and
acquisitions, as well as government and self-regulatory organization
investigations and enforcement actions. He also has substantial experience
in litigating before bankruptcy courts, most often on behalf of bondholders and
trustees. He represents both publicly and privately-held clients, as well as
individuals.
"Matt is an outstanding addition to our Boston office," said Mark A.
Pearlstein, partner-in-charge of McDermott's Boston office. "He has
represented clients across the financial, telecommunications and electronics
industries, all of which we consider great opportunities for local growth."
Mr. Martel serves on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Chapter of
the March of Dimes. He has been named a "Massachusetts Rising Star" in the
areas of general litigation and securities litigation by Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Martel is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the U.S.
District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He received his J.D.,
magna cum laude, from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of
Law.
