Chief Justice of the Probate and Family Court Paula M. Carey and First
Justice John M. Smoot of the Court’s Suffolk Division today announced the
appointment of Sandra Giovannucci as the Temporary Register of the Suffolk
Probate and Family Court. She will be sworn in on April 1, 2011, by Judge
Smoot to succeed Richard Iannella who is retiring after 14 years of service as
Register of the Court.
"I am pleased to announce my appointment of Sandra Giovannucci as the
Temporary register," said Judge Smoot. "Sandy has served this court since
1980 as a Head Administrative Assistant, Office Manager and Deputy Assistant
Register. She has won the confidence of the court staff and is broadly
respected for her competence and willingness to accept any challenge given her
to keep the court functioning at a high level." Chief Justice Carey added
"I wholeheartedly support the appointment of Sandra Giovannucci as temporary
register. She fully appreciates the needs of the citizens of Suffolk
County and tirelessly works to ensure that all persons have the access to
justice they deserve."
Register Iannella applauded the appointment of Ms. Giovannucci and said,
"Sandy has been an instrumental part of my team making the court user friendly
and understanding the importance of serving the public. The people of
Suffolk County will be well represented by her management of the Registry."
The retirement of the previous register requires, by law, the appointment of
a temporary register to be named by the First Justice of the local Probate and
Family Court. That appointment may be followed by an appointment of an
Interim Register to be named by the Governor. The Interim Register would
serve until an election in the fall of 2012 when a permanent Register will be
elected.
