The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association ("MBLA") held its Annual Gala on
March 10, 2011, culminating Damian Wilmot's (of Goodwin Procter LLP) term as the
president of the Association. At the Gala, the MBLA honored former U.S.
Senator Edward Brooke with the MBLA's Lifetime Achievement Award and honored
Superior Court Justice Barbara A. Dortch-Okara and Dr. David Hall, the President
of the University of the Virgin Islands, with the MBLA's Trailblazer
Award. U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder was the keynote speaker.
Supreme Judicial Court Justice Judith Cowin and U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz were
among the presenters. Over 600 guests attended the Gala, including
attorneys from around the Commonwealth, members of the judiciary, elected
officials, community leaders, business executives and other friends of the
MBLA.
