On Wednesday, April 20th, the BBA's Estate
Planning Committee will be sponsoring Planning
for Pets in Light of Massachusetts New Pet Trust Law,
where a panel of experts will introduce the new legislation, provide
specific examples of the new law and discuss other planning
mechanisms involved in pet trusts. In response to this event, BBA
Week was curious what its members looked for in a pet, so we
asked: |
|
"What is your ideal
pet? "

Jennifer Rushlow - Anderson
Kreiger "It's so hard to choose - I love them
all. But I do think dogs are great pets for lawyers -
they provide a great incentive to spend more time outside, and
their unconditional love is the perfect antidote to a
stressful day. All the better if you can provide a
loving home for a rescue dog. My own recently adopted
pup is a total delight, and starting the day with a dog walk
has been a great addition to my daily routine."

Ruth A. Mattson - Bowditch & Dewey, LLP
"Lawyer seeks ideal pet. Must be alive
(sorry, pet rock). Must have plenty of personality
(clams fail this test). Must be able to come let me know
when it needs something (this rules out anything in a tank or
cage). Most importantly, must love affection (shout out
to Captain Kitty)."

Nancy Kaplan - Keegan Werlin LLP "I
can't imagine ever living without a dog. My ideal pet is a dog
who doesn't shed, doesn't drool, acts as my protector but
doesn't bark unnecessarily, and loves me
unconditionally. Luckily for me, I have been blessed
with a beautiful yellow lab, Hendrix, who fits all of the
above (with the exception of the
shedding)." |

Claudia T. Centomini - Day Pitney
LLP "Although technically not a pet, I wish that I
had a horse that could speak. I would love to know from
what ailments it suffers. The horse, however, would not
be my current horse because I know that he would whine and
complain about everything! It would have to be a more
stoic horse than I have
now."
