On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, the Asian American Lawyers of Massachusetts
("AALAM") held their annual banquet at the China Pearl in Boston. Lisa
Wong, Mayor of Fitchburg, the first minority to be elected mayor of the City of
Fitchburg and first Asian-American woman to be elected mayor in the
Commonwealth, gave an animated presentation as the keynote speaker.
William F. Lee, Co-Managing Partner of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr
LLP, was presented with the AALAM Founder's Award, which is awarded annually to
an Asian-American attorney who has made significant contributions in business,
academics or the community as it relates to law. In addition, the annual
AALAM Scholarship Award was presented to H. Will Mak of Boston College Law
School. The evening also included taiko drumming entertainment by Odaiko New
England. Among those in attendance were Justice Fernande Duffly, the first
Asian American to sit on the Supreme Judicial Court, Judge Richard Chin, the
first Asian American judge appointed in the Commonwealth, Judge Paul Yee
of the Quincy District Court, and Judge George Phelan of the Norfolk Probate
& Family Court, Boston Bar Association President-Elect, Lisa Goodheart of
Sugarman , Rogers, Barshak & Cohen, Robert Sable, Executive Director of the
Greater Boston Legal Services and Massachusetts Bar Association President-Elect
Richard Campbell of Campbell, Campbell, Edwards and Conroy.
