Dr. Charles E. Lyon, a Partner in the Intellectual Property Group at Choate,
Hall & Stewart LLP, has been selected by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a
2011 "Up & Coming Lawyer." The award recognizes attorneys who have
practiced for 10 years or less and have already distinguished themselves in the
practice of law. Charles will be honored at a reception at the Hynes
Convention Center in Boston on June 2, 2011.
At Choate, Charles has led or been involved with hundreds of IP due
diligences on behalf of investors, investment banks and potential acquirers or
partners. He routinely provides opinions regarding validity and
infringement in the context of product clearances and abbreviated new drug
applications. Charles is particularly sought after for his ability to
clearly communicate issues that are most likely to affect the risks and overall
valuation of the underlying transaction or product.
Charles also develops IP strategies and prosecutes patents for
clients. While he has represented clients across the life sciences, he has
particular expertise developing portfolios relating to diagnostic tests, medical
imaging, and drug delivery. Charles has also worked extensively in
the areas of polymer chemistry and catalysis.
"This is a great honor for Charles and we are very proud that he was selected
for this award," said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, co-managing partners of
Choate, Hall & Stewart. "Charles is an incredibly talented
intellectual property attorney and he truly personifies what this award is all
about."
Charles received his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2006, his D.Phil.
in Chemistry from Oxford University in 1999, and his M.A. and B.A., first class
honors, in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University in 2000 and 1996.
