Sullivan & Worcester LLP has
announced the formation of a new practice, the Art & Museum Law Group,
devoted to helping stakeholders in fine arts carry out their missions
successfully, during a time when museums, galleries and artists are confronted
with a shifting landscape of rights, duties, claims and regulations.
Sullivan & Worcester's Art & Museum Law Group is experienced in a
broad array of issues affecting museums, artists, and other institutions devoted
to the arts. The team combines its skill and experience in these general areas
with a specific focus on museums. The Group understands both the challenges and
opportunities faced by today's museums, artists and collectors and includes John
Graham, the Best Lawyers' 2011 Boston Non-Profit/Charities Lawyer of the Year;
Nicholas M. O'Donnell, a civil litigator who has both curatorial and legal
experience with art museums; and seasoned intellectual property litigators,
among others.
"We are excited to be at the vanguard of firms in Boston and New York
providing this resource for our clients," said Nicholas M. O'Donnell. "Arts
institutions must balance issues related to intellectual property, governance,
tax, employment and restitution that do not fit into any preconceived notions of
law practice," he added. "We focus on issues affecting this community, and we
understand the specific needs and practical challenges of these unique
institutions."
