Edward J.
Barshak, a partner at Sugarman, Rogers,
Barshak & Cohen, P.C., was recently honored by the Lawyers' Committee
for Civil Rights Under Law of the Boston Bar Association with its "Civil Rights
Leadership Award." The committee noted that in addition to his role on its
Board of Directors, Barshak "has been a champion of civil rights throughout his
career." Among other achievements, Barshak played a major role in
implementing Massachusetts's Racial Imbalance Law and in winning a Massachusetts
precursor of the Supreme Court's Miranda decision, represented the NAACP in a
major suit against the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and
continues to include as part of an active litigation practice the representation
of individuals in discrimination cases.
Among other honors, Barshak has received the Boston Branch NAACP Award for
Legal Assistance on a Continuing Basis and the Anti-Defamation League New
England Region's William O. Douglas First Amendment Freedom Award. He
specializes in the trial of complex, multi-party business disputes, professional
liability and product liability claims at the trial and appellate levels.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a former President
of the Boston Bar Association. Barshak has been recognized by Chambers
USA, The Best Lawyers in America and Massachusetts Super
Lawyers.
