Barbara Fiacco, a partner in the
Intellectual Property Practice at Foley Hoag LLP, has been elected to a
three-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Intellectual Property
Law Association.
Fiacco, who is based in the firm's Boston office, represents clients in
complex intellectual property and patent litigation matters. Her
technology-related practice focuses on the biomedical field, including counsel
to companies with activities focusing on recombinant DNA, monoclonal antibodies,
small molecule compounds, drug delivery, molecular diagnostics, and medical
devices.
She has defended pharmaceutical and life sciences clients in significant
patent infringement lawsuits that have resulted in summary judgment or other
favorable outcomes. Fiacco also represents these clients in contract disputes
and other commercial litigation.
The AIPLA has approximately 16,000 members, with lawyers from private and
corporate practice, government service, and the academic community. The AIPLA
represents individuals, companies and institutions involved directly or
indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair
competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual
property.
The organization also is involved in shaping U.S. intellectual property
policy through its work on legislation, federal regulations and intellectual
property cases in the U.S. courts. Internationally, the AIPLA has spearheaded a
worldwide campaign to reduce the costs of procurement and enforcement of patents
and trademarks, regularly participates in meetings of the World Intellectual
Property Organization, and maintains close relations with foreign IP officials
and practitioners.
