Seth Jaffe, a partner at Foley Hoag
LLP and resident of Newton, Mass., was elected chairman of the board of the
Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) at its annual board meeting in
November 2011. Seth is the former Co-Chair of the BBA's Environmental Law
Section.
Seth has been an ELM board member since 2005 and most recently was on its
executive committee. He replaces attorney Stephen Leonard of Cronin &
Leonard, who served as ELM board chair since 2006.
As chair of Foley Hoag’s Administrative Law Department and coordinator of the
Environmental Practice Group, Seth’s legal practice focuses on environmental
compliance and litigation. He has been named a leading practitioner in this
field by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, and Massachusetts Super
Lawyers. He is the author of numerous publications on environmental law and is a
contributor to Foley Hoag’s Law and the Environment Blog (www.lawandenvironment.com).
“ELM was very lucky to have Steve Leonard’s leadership these past several
years, and we are delighted now to have Seth Jaffe make this extraordinary
contribution,” said George Bachrach, president of ELM. “Seth understands that
issues like climate change must be viewed as an economic issue as well as an
environmental issue. He has the experience and expertise to lead this
board.”
Seth added: “I am honored to serve as chairman of the ELM board, and I thank
Steve Leonard for his outstanding leadership these past five years. I look
forward to continuing the progress ELM made under Steve’s guidance and working
with George Bachrach and ELM’s stakeholders to increase ELM’s capacity to
accomplish its mission.”
ELM is the oldest environmental advocacy group in the Commonwealth, founded
in 1898. Its mission is to protect and conserve our water, air and land. Most
recently it has collaborated with the Barr foundation in assembling an
interdisciplinary group to work on issues of climate change, including
academics, government leaders, public health, business and labor leaders to
focus on dynamic policies to control greenhouse gas emissions.
