has been designated as a “Best Place to Work” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC)
in its recently-released 2012 Corporate Equality Index, which assessed 850 U.S.
companies – including the entire Fortune 500 – on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender (LGBT) equality. Choate was one of only 190 companies to
receive the highest possible rating of 100 percent on a set of key criteria,
which reflects the best in class practices of LGBT inclusion in the
workplace.

For the first time this year, the HRC Foundation rated companies on a set of
key criteria in order to recognize best in class practices of LGBT inclusion in
the workplace. To achieve a 100 percent rating, companies had to: provide
equal benefits for same-sex partners and spouses; end benefits discrimination
for transgender employees and dependents; demonstrate firm-wide organizational
competency on LGBT issues; and demonstrate firm-wide public commitment to the
LGBT community. For 10 years, the Corporate Equality Index has assessed
more than 30 specific policies and practices covering nearly every aspect of
employment for LGBT employees, including: non-discrimination protections and the
training surrounding those policies; domestic partnership and legal dependent
benefits; gender transition guidelines; and LGBT employee resource groups.
