Please join the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Equal Justice
Coalition and more than 500 attorneys on Wednesday, January 30th for one of
the largest lobby days at the Massachusetts State House. Our goal is to urge
lawmakers to protect state funding for programs that provide civil legal aid to
low-income Massachusetts residents.
Here is a schedule of
events:
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - Registration
(State House - Great Hall)
11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. -
Speaking program featuring Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court Roderick
L. Ireland, Boston Bar Association President James D. Smeallie, Massachusetts
Bar Association President Robert L. Holloway, Jr and Daniele Bien-Aime, a former
legal aid client.
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Legislative
visits and lunch. Attorneys will visit their legislators and ask them to
increase funding for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation line item
(MLAC, 0321-1600) by $3.5 million to $15.5 million in the FY14 budget. MLAC is
the largest funder of civil legal aid in Massachusetts.
