As the 2013 Annual
Meeting Luncheon approaches, we want to make sure all of our 1,300 attendees
are 100% prepared for Massachusetts' largest legal event of 2013. That’s why we
compiled the below list of 5 things you need to know about Annual
1) The event will take place at the Boston Convention
and Exhibition Center at 415 Summer Street in the Seaport District. The Convention Center is right next to the
Westin Boston Waterfront on the corner of Summer and D Street. Don’t worry about
where to go once you enter the center. The Convention Center and BBA Staff will
direct you to the ballroom once you tell them you're attending the BBA’s
Annual Meeting Luncheon. For those driving, there will be valet parking and a
self parking lot available. If you plan on taking the T, the Silver Line
stop is World Trade Center. Get more direction information here.
2) The event starts at 11:30. There will be a one hour cocktail
reception (which boasts beautiful views of Boston’s skyline and Boston Harbor)
and the luncheon will begin at 12:30.
3) The keynote speaker of the event is
Theodore Olson, former Solicitor General of the United States under George W. Bush.
Olson has been at the forefront of the gay marriage debate, challenging Proposition
8 in the California District Court and going on to argue the case before the
U.S. Supreme Court in March of this year. For his work on the issue, Time
magazine selected him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in
2010. Read Olson’s full bio here.
4) The event will feature two very worthy honorees.
Liberty Mutual’s Law Department will receive the Thurgood Marshall Award for
law department’s pro bono efforts, and Jay McManus, Executive Director of
the Children’s Law Center for Massachusetts, will receive the John G. Brooks
Award for his selfless
work on behalf of children.
5) Annual Meeting marks the kickoff to the new
Boston Bar Association program year, and is the inaugural event for our
2013-2014 President, Paul T. Dacier, General Counsel and Executive Vice
President of EMC. Learn more about Paul here.
