Boston Bar Association Announces 15 New Public Interest Leaders

As the Boston Bar Association’s Public Interest Leadership Program builds momentum and a flourishing alumni network, Boston Bar Association President Kathy B. Weinman today announced that 15 rising stars have been admitted to the BBA’s signature leadership development program for lawyers with fewer than ten years of experience.

"The Public Interest Leadership Program provides Boston's most promising lawyers with the skills to become tomorrow’s leaders within the legal profession and the community," said BBA President Kathy Weinman. "With the selection of this year’s class, the BBA renews its commitment to helping new lawyers achieve professional gratification, while showing them new strategies for realizing the ideals that motivated them to become lawyers in the first place."

Since the Public Interest Leadership Program began six years ago, over 40 lawyer alums have advanced to leadership positions within the BBA; its charitable affiliate, the Boston Bar Foundation; and key community groups.  Public Interest Leaders reap the benefit of their predecessors’ experience while honing their own leadership expertise through seminars with distinguished community and business leaders.

The 2008-2009 class includes a diverse mix of Leaders who come from nine different law schools, law firms and organizations of all sizes, including seven that are completely new to the program. Participants will focus on their own leadership development and personal growth, committing 250 hours to seminars, workshops, and networking opportunities.  They will create their own agenda to help inspire their peers to learn about public service and civic participation, while encouraging all lawyers to participate in these important activities.  They will also address systemic issues involving access to justice and delivery of legal services.

Gary Anderson, Massachusetts State Senate
