BBA PUBLIC SERVICe Program

BBA Public Service Committee
The BBA Public Service Committee implements the BBA Public Service Policy by 1) vetting prospective BBA public service projects; 2) reviewing ongoing projects; 3) providing advice and consultation to BBA leadership; and 4) supporting the BBA’s mission. This committee also acts as a valuable networking and information resource for supporting the legal community’s involvement in pro bono and community service.

Volunteer Opportunities
The BBA is proud to be involved with more than twenty public service activities ranging from pro bono representation of low-income people to teaching students in Boston Public Schools. These programs represent a range of opportunities and commitments that can fit within most attorneys’ busy schedules.

Introducing Young People to the Law
The BBA’s Children and Youth Outreach Project brings lawyers and students from Boston Public Schools together in a number of productive ways. Boston attorneys help Boston students through teaching, mentoring, tutoring, and employment programs. These activities help a diverse group of young people make valuable connections to the legal community which will hopefully inspire some lawyers of tomorrow.

BBA Public Interest Leadership Program
The purpose of the Boston Bar Association Public Interest Leadership Program is to honor and encourage a select group of talented and highly motivated lawyers who have demonstrated a commitment to pro bono, public service, or organized bar activities. The goal of the Program is to advance the leadership role of lawyers in service to their community, profession and the Commonwealth.

In its fourth year, the BBA Public Interest Leadership program has developed an impressive alumni network representing a diverse group of Boston ’s lawyer-leaders.
