ABOUT THE BBA PUBLIC INTEREST LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

OVERVIEW
The Public Interest Leadership Program is based upon the premise that there is no incompatibility between the leadership role of a lawyer in his or her community and a commitment to an active practice. The success of the program depends upon law firms and other organizations that will be asked to nominate lawyers and support successful candidates’ participation in the program.

ELIGIBILITY
The BBA Public Interest Leadership Program is open to lawyers who have been in practice for 10 years or less and have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to pro bono, public service, or organized bar activities.

ACTIVITIES
Operating as a select group, BBA Public Interest Leaders are provided with an insider’s view of a broad range of civic and charitable initiatives in the Greater Boston area. Public Interest Leaders participate in meetings and workshops with prominent community leaders, develop insight into the challenges confronting local organizations, and increase their understanding of successful community leadership. The program also enables Public Interest Leaders to study and participate in group projects or public service activities that respond to a community need they have identified.

EXPECTATIONS
Lawyers selected for the Public Interest Leadership Program serve for a 12 month period, up to 25 hours per month, and require the support of their law firms and or other organization that employ them. After the completion of their service year, Public Interest Leaders become part of a growing alumni network that provides mentoring and support to their successors in the Public Interest Leadership Program.

SELECTION PROCESS
The Public Interest Leadership Program application process begins in late spring. Successful candidates are notified in late August.
