A Story to Warm the Heart As law firms prepare for summer hiring, the Boston Bar Association continues to make an important difference in the lives of Boston’s youth. At a recent BBA Council meeting, members got to witness firsthand the powerful impact of the BBA Summer Jobs Program -- as special guest speaker Melissa Phineus, a student at Brighton High School, related her experiences in the program as an intern at Verrill Dana LLP*. "Being surrounded by the people at Verrill Dana gave me a stronger sense of responsibility," said Phineus. "If not for the BBA Summer Jobs Program, I would have been working at a job that was much less challenging, and much less rewarding." For Melissa, the reward for her hard work came in the form of a 4 year scholarship to Dennison University, an achievement she credits the lawyers at Verrill Dana for making possible. In addition, Melissa received an offer to work at Verrill Dana for a second summer. Members of the firm were delighted to hear that Melissa would be returning. "The contribution to the kids is tangible, important, and life changing," said Jeffery F. Jones, a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP and Co-Chair of the Summer Jobs Program. "The value to those who work with the kids is just as great."
