Free Training Sessions for Prospective Foreclosure Defense Volunteers on June 20 and 21 In an effort to educate prospective pro bono attorneys to assist homeowners facing foreclosures in Massachusetts, the National Consumer Law Center will be leading two training sessions dealing with foreclosure defense issues. The sessions will be held at the Office of the Attorney General. Nationally-known experts Gary Klein, Chris Barry-Smith of the Office of the Attorney General, and Odette Williamson and Elizabeth Renuart of the National Consumer Law Center will lead two training sessions. Attendees will be expected to serve as a hotline volunteer or represent a homeowner facing foreclosure. These training sessions are an opportunity to understand this complex area and to provide desperately-needed assistance to Massachusetts families The first session is a basic training for lawyers who are willing to help on a hotline and who are not familiar with Massachusetts foreclosure laws and how to negotiate pre-foreclosure work-out agreements. This session will take place on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Attorney General’s conference room, 100 Cambridge Street, Boston. When you enter 100 Cambridge Street, take the escalator to the second lobby level and go through security. The second session covers "advanced issues" (e.g., how to review loan documents, how to spot consumer defenses, TILA, c. 93A). It will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the same location, 100 Cambridge Street, Boston. Written educational materials will be provided.
