Jack Cinquegrana Takes Office Tomorrow Jack Cinquegrana, a veteran trial lawyer and head of the Government Enforcement & Compliance practice group at the Boston law firm of Choate Hall & Stewart, tomorrow
Cinquegrana, who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney under both Robert Mueller and Wayne Budd, and as Chief Trial Counsel for the Suffolk County D.A.’s Office under Ralph Martin, will focus on advancing BBA initiatives focusing on diversity and access to justice, and on collaboration with other bar and civic organizations on issues of importance to the city. “I’m proud of the BBA’s ‘pipeline’ activities, which are devoted to increasing the participation of lawyers of color in the organized bar and attracting students of color to our profession,” said Cinquegrana. “While we persist in our efforts to recruit minorities into the profession, we must do better, and better still at facilitating their advancement into leadership positions in law firms. This will require an ongoing, long-term commitment.” A lawyer with a passion for public service, Cinquegrana first became involved in the BBA as an associate at a large Boston firm in the early 1980s, when he helped draft the BBA’s position papers opposing President Reagan’s attempt to gut the Legal Services Corporation. At the same time, he was detailed to a pro bono assignment at Greater Boston Legal Services, where he represented a tenant before the Supreme Judicial Court who challenged nuisance eviction policies in public housing. He spent the next 13 years as a state and federal prosecutor before returning to private practice. Cinquegrana has a reputation as a skilled trial lawyer and as an expert on criminal law and sentencing policy. He was an author of the truth in sentencing legislation signed into law by Governor Weld in 1994, and can be expected to champion the adoption of sentencing guidelines by the Massachusetts legislature. He is also expected to press for structural improvements in the state courts. Cinquegrana is a graduate of Cornell University and Boston College Law School, and is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts and now lives with his wife, Karen Siegel, and their two daughters in Newton, Massachusetts. The Boston Bar Association has 9,000 members and is driven by its mission of promoting the highest standards of excellence for the legal profession, facilitating access to justice, and serving the community at large. |
