BBF ANNOUNCES 2006-07 IOLTA GRANTS

Following a thoughtful and thorough review process by the Boston Bar Foundation (BBF) Grants Committee, the BBF Board of Trustees is proud to announce the recipients of its 2006-2007 IOLTA Grants.  The BBF awarded $1,053,521 in IOLTA grants to 45 projects that deliver critical legal services to low income and underserved individuals in Greater Boston, or that promote a fair, efficient and accessible judicial system for all.

"The legal services projects that are funded through the IOLTA program are critical to the community.  We are delighted to be able to offer funding to outstanding organizations and projects that serve thousands of our state’s neediest and most vulnerable residents.  We had an exceptionally competitive grant cycle this year and I want to sincerely thank the members of the BBF Grants Committee who volunteered their time and expertise to ensure a thorough and fair review of each application.  On behalf of the BBF Board of Trustees, I want to congratulate our grant award recipients and thank them for their service to our community." said BBF President Sandra L. Jesse.

Funds for these grants are provided by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s Interest on Lawyer’s Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Program.  The BBF is one of three charitable entities that distributes IOLTA funds.  The use of IOLTA funds by grant making entities is limited to funding organizations that provide civil legal services to low-income individuals, underserved and special needs populations, or inititatives that improve the administration of justice, such as ADR, lawyer-for-day or written legal resources to assist pro se litigants.
