, Director of the Office of Research Compliance at Harvard Medical School will discuss the efforts of state and local governmental agencies to establish new oversight and review of laboratory operations.  They will explore how these efforts will affect the scope of the research and procedures for conducting research within laboratories.

The Trial Attorney Project, an expansion of the Lawyer for the Day Program at the Boston Housing Court, will offer opportunities for volunteer lawyers to gain invaluable courtroom experience through the representation of clients at jury-waived or jury summary process trials. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a real difference in a needy client’s life, while developing very practical and useful litigation and trial skills.  All volunteers will be asked to attend the 2 ½ hour training on November 8, and agree to take at least one case.

Directors and Officers Insurance (D&O) has become a highly visible and important topic in the wake of increased securities regulation and corporate scandals. This program will demystify the basic coverages available in a D&O policy, as well as provide some insight into the finer points one should consider when negotiating such a policy. The program will also offer an overview of today’s D&O industry, in terms of the cost of insurance and the severity and frequency of claims the industry is handling.  Many of the concepts will be illustrated through real life claims scenarios.
