"What do you think will be the most important issue for lawyers in 2007?"

Lisa Wood - Foley Hoag LLP
"I am looking forward to a change in the tone of public discourse about the judiciary. I was very distressed at the public bashing of judges some members of our federal and state legislators engaged in over the last several years, and was also dismayed at the changes our former governor imposed on the judicial nominating process. I hope all lawyers will encourage our new leaders to publicly acknowledge the important role played by an independent judiciary, and to demonstrate their commitment with increased funding for the judiciary."

Robert C. Barber - Looney & Grossman LLP
"While lawyers certainly have to deal with new e-discovery rules in federal courts, and keep pace with technology developments (with a focus on security/privacy issues), the most important issue should be that which challenges our newly elected leaders in state and federal government--ensuring that voices from all quarters are heard, that individual liberties are not trampled, and that justice is accessible to all people."

Robin Sheedy Bunker - Hemenway & Barnes
"With the inauguration of Governor Patrick and his emphasis on civic engagement, and our profession’s history of community involvement, I think (and hope) we will see a renewed challenge to attorneys to become more involved in local activities that directly benefit the public good.  The most important issue for each attorney may be how he or she chooses to respond to this challenge."

Joseph H. Baldiga - Mirick, O'Connell, DeMallie & Lougee, LLP
"Lawyers will continue to be challenged to do work for the public good (pro bono services, playing active roles in the BBA and other bar organizations, for example) despite the ever-increasing client and economic pressures and competition inherent in any law practice, whether sole practitioner or large firm."

Elizabeth Sackett - Robinson & Cole LLP
"Electronic discovery in litigation will be a significant issue in 2007 as members of the bar and the courts apply the new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and as the state courts consider revising electronic discovery rules."
