Help Increase Legal Aid to the Poor

The Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Equal Justice Coalition, along with a number of county and specialty bars, will sponsor the 9th annual Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid. Private attorneys and bar leaders from across Massachusetts will ask their legislators to expand funding for legal aid to begin to address the longstanding shortage of legal aid in non-criminal cases. Last year’s Walk drew over 500 attorneys from 39 sponsor firms, with 13 managing partners participating.

USDOT/PHMSA: Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations Applicability and Enforcement
Mike Hilder and Margaret Carson, U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration ("PHMSA"), will present an introduction on the applicability of Federal regulations to the transportation of all types of hazardous materials by air, rail, highway, and water, and the measures of Federal, State, and local officials to promote compliance with those regulations.

The Biolab Case and MEPA: The Supreme Judicial Court's Decision in Allen v. BRA

We will discuss the recent SJC decision in Allen v. BRA, which overturned the Secretary of Environmental Affairs certificate on an environmental impact report for the Biolab development in Boston's South End. Ken Kimmell, Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Douglas H. Wilkins, Anderson & Kreiger LLP, and Ronald W. Ruth, Sherin & Lodgen LLP, will be with us to provide their perspectives on the SJC's opinion and its implications for future MEPA administration and litigation.
