Firms Take Earth Day Vows

Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels LLP * celebrated Earth Day by becoming a signatory of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Lawyers Eco-Challenge, which was launched in January as a collaborative initiative between the MBA and the Conservation Law Foundation to encourage the legal community to conserve energy and resources. In 2005, the firm established its Climate & Energy Group to assist clients with matters related to renewable energy project development and finance, "cleantech," emissions reduction schemes and alternative energy sources.

Bingham McCutchen LLP * launched its firm-wide Green Initiative on Earth Day. Aiming to reduce Bingham's firm-wide consumption of plastic, energy and paper by the end of 2008, the Initiative unites the environmentally friendly efforts of Bingham's offices worldwide. Bingham plans to reduce the use of plastic water bottles in all of its offices by the end of 2008. The London office no longer uses plastic water bottles at all, and the Boston and Washington offices currently offer filtered water on each floor. To conserve paper, toner and ink, lawyers and staff will be urged to view documents on the computer instead of printing them and using both sides of the page when printing.
