Bringing It Home at the National Level

Last week the National Association of Bar Executives, an ABA affiliate, honored the BBA with an award for its role in the success of the M. Ellen Carpenter Financial Literacy Program, a joint effort of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Massachusetts and the BBA.  BBA President-Elect Kathy Weinman and Janet Bostwick, who co-chairs the program with U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Joan Feeney, and accepted the award at a special awards luncheon in New York. The M. Ellen Carpenter Financial Literacy Program is targeted to high school students throughout Massachusetts, teaching students to make smart choices about credit and stay out of court.

Following the award ceremony, Janet, who has dedicated countless hours to the program, in her typically gracious style, issued the following statement:

“This award recognizes the great partnership between the volunteers and BBA staff.  Our volunteers are generous and enthusiastic with their time and support, enabling us to continually expand the program.  But the program could not happen without the hard work and dedication of Paul Dullea, BBA Director of Community Affairs, and Rebecca Rantz, BBA Public Service Coordinator, who handle the countless details involved in coordinating hundreds of volunteers and dozens of schools) and Bonnie Sashin, BBA Communications Director, who spreads news of the program in the media.

And while I appreciate all the efforts of the volunteers and BBA staff, I especially want to thank Paul, since his enthusiasm, leadership and support are essential cornerstones of the program.”
