BBA President Announces Additional New Officers

Following a vote by the Boston Bar Association’s governing Council last night, Boston Bar Association President Anthony M. Doniger today announced that Kathy B. Weinman, a partner at Dwyer & Collora, LLP, has become President-Elect of the BBA effective immediately.  John J. Regan, a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, has become Vice President; John H. Chu, the managing partner of Chu, Ring & Hazel LLP, has become Treasurer, and Deborah S. Birnbach, a partner at Goodwin Procter, has become Secretary.

Kathy B. Weinman focuses on complex litigation, principally the defense of corporate and individual clients in white-collar criminal and securities enforcement cases. Kathy previously served on the BBA’s Council and Executive Committee. She also co-chaired the BBA Criminal Law Section. Kathy was one of the BBA’s designees to the Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Nominations, which evaluates and reports on judicial nominees, and also served on the BBA’s Education and Nominating Committees. She has lectured on various aspects of criminal law practice, including at the American Bar Association’s Institutes on White Collar Crime and Health Care Fraud.  Kathy graduated from the University of Michigan (A.B. with honors and high distinction, Phi Beta Kappa) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., magna cum laude).

John J. Regan concentrates on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. He has chaired WilmerHale’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. Jack has chaired the BBA’s Intellectual Property Litigation Committee, been Co-Chair of the BBA’s Litigation Section, chaired the BBA’s Nominating Committee, and been a member of the BBA’s Children’s Outreach Task Force and the Boston Bar Foundation’s Adams Ball Committee. Jack is Co-Chair of WilmerHale’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee, which manages the firm’s pro bono legal services program, Youth and Education Initiative programs, and its relationship with Harvard Law School’s Legal Services Center.  Jack currently chairs the Boards of Trustees of Discovering Justice and LaSalle Academy, and he is a trustee of the Inner City Scholarship Fund.  Jack is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and New York University School of Law, where he was a Root-Tilden Scholar.

John H. Chu focuses on representing growing enterprises and on venture capital transactions. John began his legal career at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson and then McGarrahan & Heard (now part of Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn), both in New York. He subsequently joined the firm now known as Bingham McCutchen LLP in Boston, where he was a partner in its business area, co-founding his current firm in 1995. In addition to being a member John of the Boston Bar Association, John is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, American Bar Association, Asian-American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts and National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.  He previously served on the BBA Council and has served on the BBA’s Audit, Executive and Finance Committees. He is a Trustee of the Boston Bar Foundation.  John is a graduate of the University of Chicago and Columbia University Law School.

Deborah S. Birnbach concentrates in the areas of securities litigation, including class action defense, SEC regulatory and internal investigations, stockholder disputes, fiduciary duty claims, founder and partnership disputes and private equity litigation surrounding private financings. She also represents clients in M&A-related litigation, unfair competition disputes, license agreement disputes, intellectual property and trade secret litigation.  Deborah is past co-chair of the Litigation Section and the Business Litigation Committee of the BBA, and also chaired the Amicus Committee of the BBA.  She serves on the Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Nominations, which reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations on the qualifications of individuals under consideration for judicial appointments in Massachusetts.  Deborah is a graduate of Wellesley College (cum laude), and Columbia University Law School.
