"What are the qualities of a good leader?"

Jacy L. Wilson – Morrison Mahoney LLP
"I think a good leader is someone who not only is self-motivated, dedicated, and forward-thinking, but also has the unique ability to encourage and inspire others to achieve what they otherwise might not have thought possible."

Damon P. Hart – Holland & Knight LLP
"I think it is essential that a leader, in any capacity, have a vision and must be able to communicate his or her vision clearly to those who are expected to follow.  As a Christian, I also believe in a Christ-like leadership style, which means the leader must be a servant-leader and be willing to do the lowliest job in order for the group to succeed.  This involves humility and compassion.  Once the vision has been properly explained, the followers will know that you care and that you are committed through your own acts of service. They, in turn, will do what ever needs to be done toward the realization of your vision."

Lisa M. Hodes – Greenberg Traurig LLP
"There is no precise formula for a good leader.  Some important traits include the ability to (1) think strategically and methodically, (2) understand the nature and extent of his or her strengths and weaknesses, (3) learn from his or her mistakes, (4) manage personalities, and (5) communicate clearly and effectively.  Also, a good leader knows when to follow."

Michael L. Henry – Verrill Dana LLP
"The most important quality of a good leader is to have the unqualified respect of her/his constituency.  Related qualities include humility, the willingness to seek the opinions of others and listen carefully to their responses, and personal integrity/boldness, the latter of which may be reflected in a willingness to speak what others will not."

Katharine O. Beattie – Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo P.C.
"A good leader is confident but modest, driven but compassionate, forward-thinking but reflective – and remembers to laugh and say 'thank you'– a sense of humor and good manners go a long way in motivating people to follow you."
