"What is the most exciting thing you've ever done?"

Hon. Peter M. Lauriat – Massachusetts Superior Court
"Aside from meeting my wife, Alison, of now more than 40 years, it was probably sailing a 38' boat from Bermuda to Maine in the mid-1990's with three other crew members – including 2 1/2 days of a good ole Atlantic storm, with 20-30 knot winds and a 12-14 foot sea. I was only a crew member myself, but it was a memorable and unique experience to be in a small boat in a very large ocean, hundreds of miles from land, depending upon each other for safety and survival."

Sarah C. Richmond – Gesmer Updegrove LLP
"The most exciting thing I’ve ever done was to go on a safari in Kenya. It is an incredible experience to watch the beauty of these wild animals up close in their own habitat. Witnessing a herd of charging wildebeests (luckily not charging in my direction) was a sight I will never forget."

James F. Coffey – Verrill Dana, LLP
"I'd say it was probably running the Boston Marathon this year (in adverse weather conditions) knowing that my wife and three small children were waiting for me at Logan airport. I had to get there by 5 PM in order to catch a 6 PM flight with them to London. Upon arrival at Logan, my wife asked, 'What took you so long?' and I replied, 'The traffic was crazy.'"

Pamela D. Harvey – Dept. of Environmental Protection
"I've found an exciting activity that I am able to enjoy quite frequently: sea kayaking. I usually paddle from Woods Hole, and while my geographic reach is limited, the area is beautiful and offers great opportunity for adventure. I have paddled over to see the great white shark during its visit to Naushon, across the Sound to Martha's Vineyard, through the current in Woods Hole passage into Buzzards Bay, and along the Elizabeth Islands in search of seals."

John T. Morrier – Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo P.C.
"It's a close call between skiing down the backside of Cervinia, Italy to Zermatt, Switzerland or finishing the New York City Marathon – either of which would be a complete surprise to anyone who met me after law school."

Susan Grossberg – The Law Offices of Susan Grossberg
"The most exciting thing I’ve ever done was leaping blindly off that cliff to start my own consumer bankruptcy practice. Looking back, I can’t believe I had that much courage. But I love it. Particularly the independence I have over my time (I never schedule anything before 11:00 a.m., although I occasionally have been found working away in my office at 11:00 p.m.) and the ability to take the cases I want, especially those cases where I know I can make a difference in someone’s life, even though it’s not going to help my own bottom line. I wouldn't have it any other way."
