"What was your most memorable Thanksgiving?"

"I love Thanksgiving – it is one of my favorite holidays. I've had many memorable Thanksgivings, including one spent in Paris with my cousin where we were unable to find turkey to eat. When I lived in Baltimore, I used to spend every Thanksgiving at my neighbor’s house, as I wasn’t getting near I-95 through New Jersey and New York during Thanksgiving week. Probably my most memorable Thanksgivings, though, happened when I was in college and would bring home for Thanksgiving absolutely anyone who apparently had nowhere to go – roommates from California, exchange students from Africa, random almost-strangers I’d met somewhere or other. We had fascinating conversations, strong opinions, and lots of laughter. My parents were very patient with my open-door policy to their home on Thanksgiving! And inviting guests was in the spirit of the holiday, although it was unintentional – I think I was just interested in all these people from all walks of life." |

"As a child, we always spent Thanksgiving with my grandparents in Kansas City, Missouri. After dinner, my cousins and I would put on plays for the adults in a big, open room on the third floor of my grandparent's rambling old house. There is a tradition in Kansas City that, on the night after Thanksgiving, the Christmas lights are turned on for the first time in the Country Club Plaza area of the city. It’s an architecturally and historically significant shopping area, which is covered from end to end in Christmas lights. We always went down to the Plaza to see the lights. It was always freezing cold, but incredibly exciting for us kids." |

"My mother is an amazing cook and always prepares Thanksgiving dinner. However, one year my aunt insisted that she would cook dinner. My aunt never was a cook and this holiday dinner proved it. The carrots that she used for the vegetable tray were frozen carrots from the bag. She bought a fresh turkey, froze it and then cooked it with the giblets still wrapped in plastic. Needless to say, we made my mother prepare an entire turkey dinner for the following day." |

"My most memorable Thanksgiving was the year that we invited almost thirty people over for dinner. Our entire family (including many extended family members) was around the table eating and enjoying each other’s company. While there was a great deal of work that went into preparing the food, cleaning and putting away the plates and leftovers, the satisfaction of seeing your family together for a celebratory event made it all worthwhile." |

"My most memorable Thanksgiving was Thanksgiving 2001. My husband and I were honeymooning in Hawaii for two weeks and spent Thanksgiving Day lounging on Poipu Beach on the Island of Kauai and then attending a luau for our Thanksgiving dinner!" |
