The South Coast Project's Hurdles
Please welcome Kristina Egan, The South Coast Rail Project for the Executive Office of Transportation, at this brown bag lunch. The South Coast Project will connect New Bedford and Fall River and points between to Boston’s South Station by commuter rail. The project, which is projected to reduce Vehicle Miles Travelled substantially, and therefore to improve air quality, nevertheless presents significant environmental issues, especially with respect to its wetland impacts. EOT filed an Environmental Notification Form for the project on November 17, 2008 and is awaiting a scoping decision from the MEPA Office. Ms. Egan will describe the project generally and will focus her remarks on the state and federal regulatory hurdles that such a project, even one promising substantial environmental benefits, faces. |

Review of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
 |
William Wise |
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) is a high priority for law enforcement both in the U.S. and around the world. Fines have increased to unprecedented levels. Companies who engage in business with foreign governments and interact with their local officials must be very sensitive to all elements of their commercial transactions; customers, agents, consultants, record keeping requirements, etc. In our brief hour we will review the basics of the FCPA and discuss the value of urging appropriate clients to institute effective anti-corruption compliance program to meet the challenges of the FCPA. Panelists: Robert Keefe, WilmerHale and Chris Barry, Forensic Services Practice, PWC. Moderator: William Wise, Holland & Knight LLP. |
