For nearly a decade, our speakers, Susan J. Crane, Law Office of Susan J. Crane, and Christopher P. Davis, Goodwin Procter LLP, crafted a bill and lobbied the Massachusetts legislature to address the catastrophic cleanup costs faced by homeowner with heating oil spills. Chapter 453 of the Acts of 2008 (the “Act”) was signed into law this January. This new legislation offers some welcomed relief to Massachusetts homeowners whose properties become contaminated by home heating oil releases Join Ms. Crane and Mr. Davis as they discuss their journey, their collaboration with other environmental lawyers and consultants (including the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the fuel oil industry), homeowners insurance coverage issues in relation to heating oil releases, and what lies ahead. |
