Jim Stokes on SJC Working Committee

James C. Stokes, a partner at Bingham McCutchen who focuses primarily on mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance matters, has become a member of the SJC Working Committee.  The Committee is looking at whether there should be new standards for graduates of foreign law schools.  Jim chaired The Study Group on Foreign Attorney Admission, convened by the BBA in 2006 amid concerns that Boston is losing talent to other jurisdictions because the difficulty of sitting for the bar exam is driving most foreign trained legal talent to other jurisdictions.

Bingham Continues to Grow by Acquisitions

Bingham McCutchen has announced that it and McKee Nelson have signed a letter of intent to combine on or before August 1. The combined firm, which will use the Bingham McCutchen name, will bring together Bingham’s 1,000 lawyers in 12 offices in the United States, United Kingdom and Asia with McKee Nelson’s 120 lawyers, located in New York and Washington, D.C., bringing Bingham’s presence in New York and Washington to over 200 lawyers in each city. The transaction is subject to due diligence and approval by both partnerships.
