The Buck Starts Here: Perspectives on the Financial Crisis
Lynne B. Barr
Join us for the continuation of a series of lunchtime programs which focus on legal and business developments in the tumultuous financial services industry. The issue we will be focusing on this time is the Obama administration’s controversial proposal to establish a new agency with comprehensive oversight of consumer products to be known as the Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The line-up for the August 19 program is as follows: Richard P. Hackett, Pierce Atwood LLP, will give an update on the status of legislative efforts in this area; Lynne B. Barr, Goodwin Procter LLP, will analyze the legislation and what it may mean for banks and the many other providers of consumer financial services including attorneys; and Barbara Anthony, Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, will provide her own perspective on the legislation including its impact on the state/federal dynamic. A question and answer period will follow. Co-sponsored by the Morin Center for Banking and Financial Law, BU School of Law. Please note: RSVPs are necessary for arranging security access. Please remember to bring a form of ID with you. You do not need to have attended a previous lunch in order to benefit from this discussion.
