Overview of Recent MySpace and Facebook Agreements
Scott Schafer, Deputy Division Chief of the Consumer Protection Division at the Attorney General's Office, will provide an overview of the agreements with MySpace and Facebook. Over the past year, a coalition of 50 Attorneys General -- led by an Executive Committee that included Attorney General Martha Coakley -- entered into agreements with the social networking sites MySpace and Facebook to implement safeguards that would better protect children using the sites. As part of the agreements, MySpace and Facebook agreed to make significant design and functionality changes to their websites. Mr. Schafer will discuss the combined legal and technological approach the AGs took under the settlement, and include an overview of other initiatives the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division is currently working on to safeguard consumers personal information. |
