M. Ellen Carpenter Financial Literacy Program Seeks Volunteers The M. Ellen Carpenter Financial Literacy Program, a joint project of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts and the Boston Bar Association, is entering its fifth year. The program was recently awarded the 2008 LexisNexis Community & Educational Outreach Award by the National Association of Bar Executives. Scheduled to begin in late January 2009, the Program seeks additional volunteers to instruct high school students through modules about basic financial issues like personal finance, budgeting, buying a car, using credit, and the consequences associated with credit problems. Attorneys of all backgrounds are encouraged to volunteer to teach one session. The time commitment is less than six hours and the Program provides training and materials. The BBA invites members to suggest high schools or teachers that might be interested in participating in the Program this year. There will be a Volunteer’s Appreciation Reception on Thursday, November 13th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for new and returning volunteers. To sign up, please contact the BBA's Public Service Coordinator, Rebecca Rantz at Rrantz@bostonbar.org. |
