BBA Green Office Tips of the Week: Holiday Edition

1. Americans throw away one million extra tons of garbage each week during the holidays, including wrapping paper and packaging.  To reduce the amount of waste, shop locally to decrease the number of boxes from shopping online, recycle gift bags and wrapping paper, and give gifts of experiences (like tickets or memberships) that don’t need much – if any – wrapping.

2.  Holiday lights with LEDs are 90% more efficient than traditional lights.  If everyone who uses holiday lights used LEDS, at least two billion kilowatt-hours of electricity would be saved this month (US Dept of Energy study).

3.  If you’re giving gifts that require batteries, also give rechargeable batteries and a charger.
