"If you could abolish only hunger or hatred, which would you abolish?"
 |
Jill Collins – Day Pitney
“I would abolish hatred because in the absence of hatred, some of the causes of hunger, such as war, would be eliminated. In addition, more people would be willing to share their resources, which would decrease the impact of hunger.” |
 |
Justin DiBiasio – Foley & Lardner
“I would abolish hatred. That would be the end of hate crime. I think it would also help pave the way for universal tolerance, respect for difference, and peace. Hunger can be solved with the provision of food, but I think finding a practical solution to end hostile feelings would be more of a challenge. I’d take the quick fix on that one, if I had to choose.” |

Meredith French – Day Pitney
“I would abolish hunger as it is much more likely that, as a result, the level of hatred in this world would naturally diminish as well. This would result in an overall greater reduction in both hunger and hatred than would result from choosing hatred over hunger. I have firm evidence to support my theory (ok, ok, not statistically significant, but still!). In college, two friends of mine embarked on two weeks of no carbs –the most miserable two weeks of their college careers. Everyone they came into contact with would have done well to wear a helmet to avoid the wrath of the carb-deprived duo. Alas, had they only eaten properly, there would have been no anger. The choice is simple.” |
