"What are some improvements you'd make to the MBTA, and how would they affect your daily commute?"

Nathaniel Gaede – Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP
"I would institute a system that notifies passengers waiting at subway and bus stops of the current wait time for the next train or bus. This would allow everyone to grab a cup of coffee without worrying about missing their ride. I would also register Charlie Cards to an individual's name available through HR departments of local businesses (currently only an unregistered monthly card is available through the pre-tax system). This change would allow commuters to use the same card indefinitely, and if you lost your card, the MBTA could just cancel the old one electronically and issue you a replacement one. Currently you are out the cost of a monthly pass if you lose your work-issued card."

Ned Notis-McConarty – Hemenway & Barnes LLP
"I wish the MBTA would regulate or even ban the use of cellphones. Time on public transportation is pleasant and passes quickly if you can read. It is torture if you have to listen to someone else argue with the phone company about their bill, or some other personal matter. They always talk too loudly."

Maureen A. O’Rourke – Boston University School of Law
"I don’t take the T much but it'd be nice if the schedules were more regular so you could estimate more reliably how long you'll have to wait.  It'd also be great if the ride were a bit smoother and if the cars had more seats."

Aaron J. Agulnek – MA State Senate
"The MBTA should install GPS and navigational devices to inform riders of the expected wait times for the next train and any unanticipated delays. This probably would not save any time, but the psychological boost would be priceless! Rather than staring in the direction of the previous stop, commuters would be more likely to engage in friendly conversations with one another. In addition, you could see if you have enough time to grab that last second cup of coffee."
