Join Geoffrey Why and Michael Isenberg of the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable (DTC), along with interested industry members and legal practitioners to:
- Learn about the DTC's various goals,
- Review the DTC's new legal and other procedures, and

Join us for an overview of pending issues and items in New England impacting the telecommunications marketplace. The first hour will include a presentation of the FCCs newly adopted Customer Privacy Network Information rules, their application to all providers including VoIP and federal enforcement activities related to privacy along with a question and answer period. The second hour will see a panel discussion with a guaranteed lively discussion of current telecommunications issues pending in the New England states.

Confirmed participants include representatives from the FCC, the new Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications & Cable, AT&T, Comcast, OneCommunications, Sprint Nextel, National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) and Boston Universitys Department of Mass Communication, Advertising & Public Relations.

Please plan on staying for a holiday networking event immediately thereafter.

The Patrick Administration’s Vision for Energy in the Commonwealth

Ann Berwick, Undersecretary for Energy, will discuss Governor Patrick's vision for energy in the Commonwealth, including supplying energy at affordable prices and promoting clean energy. With energy issues at the forefront, Ms. Berwick's insight is timely, and her comments will be informative.

As Undersecretary for Energy, Ms. Berwick has responsibilities related to the Division of Energy Resources (DOER) and to the energy functions of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU, formerly the Department of Telecommunications and Energy DTE), and shares responsibility for integration of energy into the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Understanding the Net Neutrality Debate

Panelists will include policy, legal, and industry experts representing some of the various positions on the effect of proposals to offer premium access to the Internet, and whether legislation or federal intervention is needed to keep the Net “neutral.”

Panelists include Kristin Smith, a senior aide for U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe (ME) who has filed net neutrality legislation; Richard Whitt, principal for NetsEdge Consulting (formerly V.P. Federal Law and Policy for MCI) who represents Google; Paul Vasington, Director of State Public Policy for Verizon; and William Wilhelm, partner in the law firm of Bingham McCutcheon LLP.

The moderated panel discussion will be followed by an opportunity for questions, and refreshments. The cost of this event is $15 for FCBA and BBA members, $25 for non-members, and free for government employees.
