The next meeting of the Land Use & Development Committee will take place on Tuesday, October 5 at 12:00 p.m. at the offices of MassHousing, One Beacon Street, 29th Floor, Boston. The guest speaker will be Stephen J. Hines, Esq. Chief of Real Estate Development, Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

Mr. Hines will speak about the prospects for development of Turnpike-owned land including the Pike's current proposals for disposition of land south of Kneeland Street and the Bulfinch Triangle.

Please join E. Christopher Kehoe, Esq. of Robinson & Cole LLP and current president of the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts (REBA) on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. at the BBA, 16 Beacon Street, Boston. He will present an update concerning REBA's discharge legislation and a question and answer session on how to solve discharge problems.

3. Leasing Committee - 10/18/04

The next meeting of the Leasing Committee, entitled "Commercial Leasing Basics," will take place on Monday, October 18, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. at the BBA, 16 Beacon Street, Boston. Geoffrey A. Howell, Esq. of Piper Rudnick LLP; Elizabeth G. Garner, Esq. of Torpy & Garner, LLC; and Eric M. Labbe, Esq. of Goodwin Procter LLP will be the speakers at the meeting.

This will be the first presentation of a two-part series covering an introduction to commercial leasing including:

  • Preliminary stages of a lease transaction
  • Types of leases
  • "Big picture" look at a typical office lease
  • Preparing a lease summary or abstract
  • Reviewing ancillary leasing documents (including SNDAs and estoppel certificates)
  • Brief discussion of some of the major issues typically negotiated in a lease


The second presentation in the series is scheduled for Monday, November 15, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. at the BBA, 16 Beacon Street, Boston.

New members and young attorneys are encouraged to attend. As a special treat to attendees pizza will be provided.
